137th SOW celebrates 2023 Oklahoma Women in Aviation

Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Heather Penney, senior fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, speaks during the seventh Oklahoma Women in Aviation and Aerospace Day celebration Dec. 8, 2023, at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base, Oklahoma City. She was among the first wave of U.S. female fighter pilots. She flew two combat tours in Iraq and eventually took a job at Lockhead Martin, where she worked to communicate between engineers, programs and Air Force customers. The annual event pays homage to the many women who have made significant contributions to the state’s aviation and aerospace industry.
