The flight was a part of MATOP (Multiple Aircraft Training Opportunity Program), a hands-on training program organized by the 137th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma City. It was designed to provide aeromedical evacuation squadrons from across the U.S. opportunities to work with the C-130 Hercules, KC-135 Stratotanker and C-17 Globemaster III. The flight brought together aeromedical evacuation units from California, West Virginia, North Carolina, Minnesota, Wyoming, Delaware, Mississippi, New York and Oklahoma.
